5.1 Noetzie's Three-Level Waste System

Noetzie implements a three-level waste system to promote responsible waste management and recycling:

1. Black Bags: Non-recyclable household rubbish is disposed of in black bags .

2. Transparent Bags: Recyclable materials are placed in transparent bags . The Knysna Municipality only accepts clean glass, clean hard and soft plastics (no cling wrap), and paper (no used tissues or napkins) for recycling .

3. Blue Bags: Vegetable waste and garden refuse are collected in blue bags for an additional fee per bag .

The municipality collects waste every Monday and also on Fridays during the December holiday season . River properties have a central, monkey-proof waste container for black and green bags only .

5.2 Recycling Guidelines and Accepted Materials

To ensure effective recycling, residents and visitors must adhere to the following guidelines:

• Only clean glass, hard and soft plastics (excluding cling wrap), and paper (excluding used tissues and napkins) are accepted for recycling .

• All recyclable materials should be placed in transparent bags for collection .

• Contaminated or non-recyclable items should not be placed in the transparent bags, as this can disrupt the recycling process .

By following these guidelines, residents can contribute to reducing waste and promoting a more sustainable environment in Noetzie.

5.3 Proper Disposal of Garden Refuse and Kitchen Waste

Garden refuse should not be composted on Noetzie properties and should be removed from the area . This is because garden waste can contribute to the spread of invasive plant species and attract unwanted animals like monkeys and baboons .

Kitchen waste must also be stored securely in adequate containers to prevent access by baboons and monkeys . This helps to maintain hygiene and prevent potential conflicts with wildlife.
